Our story

A little London bakery with a lot of butter

Bloomsbury Bakery began in 2016 in a flat above a bookshop, with one oven, a second-hand mixer and an order book made of sticky notes. Word travelled the way it does in a small neighbourhood — first friends, then their friends, then the whole street.

Today we bake from a proper kitchen on Marchmont Street, but the way we work hasn't changed. Small batches. Real ingredients. Cakes that taste like someone made them for you, because someone did.

Handmade, always

Every sponge is weighed, folded and finished by hand. No shortcuts, no factory tins, no premade frosting.

Ingredients we're proud of

British butter, free-range eggs, Madagascan vanilla and 70% Belgian chocolate. Fruit from the market up the road.

Baked for the moment

We bake to order the morning of your collection, so what you carry home is only ever hours out of the oven.

Celebrations

The cake in the middle of the table

We've baked for first birthdays and eightieth birthdays, for engagements, exam results, retirements and one very memorable dog adoption. Whatever you're marking, tell us about it — we'll help you choose the size, the sponge and the words piped on top.
